Syria Border

Are S-300 missiles on their way to Syria right now?

A report on CNN Thursday said that American intelligence units hadobserved several Russian warships on their way to Syria. The ships are currently in the eastern Mediterranean, and information gathered by the intelligence groups indicates that the ships are carrying parts for the S-300 missiles.

According to the report, the U.S. has been keeping track of the Russian ships for several days, ever since they left a military base in Russia. Satellite data indicates that the ships are carrying cargo that appears to be suitable for use in a weapons system, most likely the S-300.

Several days ago, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia had not yet begun shipping the missiles to Syria. However, in an interview on a Hizbullah-affiliated television channel last weekend, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad hinted that Syria had already received some of the missiles, the contract for which Damascus signed with Moscow several years ago. In response, Russian officials said that the systems had not yet been shipped to Syria.

Earlier, the IDF verified reports Thursday morning that Syrian rebel forces had conquered the Golan city of Kuneitra, placing them directly on the border with Israel. IDF officials said that the takeover of the area by rebel forces was a “significant development.”

IDF officials have advised agricultural workers in the border area to stay away from the border until the security situation can be clarified. In addition, the road running near the border from the southern to the northern Golan has been closed, in case fighting spills over into Israel.

Kerry and the Peace Idiots Ride Again

Few figures in American political life have been as consistently wrong as often as John Kerry. The former Senator bet on every Communist leader and Middle Eastern tyrant he could find only to watch the wheels of history roll over his mistakes. And now as Secretary of State, Kerry is at it again.

In between peddling a Syrian peace process that no one but him believes in, he took a break to peddle the even more discredited peace process between Israel and the terrorists.

In a speech to the American Jewish Committee, Kerry invoked the litany of failures, "Madrid to Oslo to Wye River and Camp David and Annapolis", but urged his audience not to pay attention to history and “give in to cynicism”.

6 Photos From the 6 Day War You’ve Never Seen Before. plus - Israeli army relives Six Day War on Twitter

In the Six Day War (June 5-10, 1967), the IDF fought some of the defining battles of Israeli history and of the 20th Century. But what happened during preparation beforehand, and during those six days in between the battles? These are the people who fought for Israel’s freedom – some famous, some not – and six very heartfelt moments that happened behind the headlines.

Israeli army relives Six Day War on Twitter

These days every conflict features minute-by-minute updates and commentary via social media, especially micro-blogging website Twitter. Israel's last Gaza campaign, Operation Pillar of Cloud, was a perfect example, when even the Israeli army got in on the social media action.

What if some of Israel's bigger, more important wars had also been covered live on Twitter? Wonder no longer (at least not if you understand Hebrew).

Starting today, the anniversary of the start of the Six Day War in 1967, the Israeli army will be posting "tweets" as though they were coming from soldiers involved in that conflict. A "live blogging" of the Six Day War...46 years after the fact.

A special Twitter account has been set up for the exercise, and can be found at twitter.com/IDF1967 (Hebrew only)

Abbas insists Jerusalem must be divided

Below video(factual)  explaining why & how Israel  has full legal and historical rights to build in all parts of Jerusalem.

RAMALLAH, June 5, 2013 (WAFA - PLO news service) –

 President Mahmoud Abbas
said Wednesday that the Palestinian people will never give up their right to
Jerusalem as the capital of their state in spite of all the Israeli measures
intended to alter the character of the occupied city.

Abbas was speaking at the fourth annual conference on Jerusalem, which is
held in Ramallah on the occasion of the Muslim holiday, al-Isra wa al-Miraj,
the miraculous trip of Prophet Muhammad who travelled on his horse,
al-Buraq, from Mecca to Jerusalem, and from there he ascended to heaven and
back.

“This time 46 years ago, Jerusalem came under Israeli occupation,” said
Abbas. “Israel started a process to change the geographic and demographic
character of the holy city through the demolition of homes of Jerusalem
residents, their systematic removal from their city and preventing them from
building homes or their economy while building settlements and falsifying
facts, names and characters.”

He said that Israel’s goal was to isolate the city from its Palestinian
surroundings and empty it or reduce its Palestinian residents to create an
Israeli majority in the city, describing this policy as “a blatant violation
of international law and denial of Palestinian rights.”

He said that this Israeli policy is a reflection of an approach that is
against peace and supports settlements, occupation and expansion.

Abbas said that in spite of all these years of occupation and Israeli
policies, they did not affect the Palestinian people’s determination to keep
Jerusalem as their eternal capital nor affected their will to fight or
remain steadfast.

“There will be no peace without Jerusalem, no state without Jerusalem and no
stability without Jerusalem,” he said, stressing that protecting and
defending Jerusalem is not a Palestinian responsibility only, but also an
Arab and Islamic one.

Abbas said that even though 65 years have passed since the “nakba” and 46
years since the Israeli occupation of the remainder of Palestine, “the
Palestinian people have risen from under the ruins of the nakba and the
remains of the defeat to redraw their political and historical map.”

He said that after becoming a non-member state in the United Nations and
full member of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural
Organization (UNESCO), efforts will now be exerted on joining all UN
organizations.

“These steps will be followed by others until we achieve our legitimate
right to become full members in all the international organizations and
establish our sovereign Palestinian state on all the occupied territory with
Jerusalem as its capital so that we will put an end to the historical
injustice against our people,” he said.

He also rejected a one-sided peace with Israel, which he described as
surrender.

“One-sided peace is not real peace. It is surrender, which we will not
accept or want,” he said.
(notice Abbas says exactly what Israel say's One-sided peace, Israel DO NOT have
a partner for peace)

Abbas saluted the prisoners whom he promised there will not be peace without
their release from Israeli jails and called on Hamas to move forward on
reconciliation through agreeing to elections.

Knesset Debates Territorial Compromise with PA

On Wednesday a special session was held at the Knesset to discuss the latest proposal of the Arab League regarding territorial compromise. Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu asserted that the negotiations could progress only when both sides agree to a cessation of violence and mutual recognition of each other's right to self determination. He called upon Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas to drop his previously stated preconditions for entering negotiations. The Arab League has called upon Israel to relinquish much of the land it liberated form Jordanian occupation in the 1967 Six Day War.

Op-Ed: "Palestine" - Pouring Money Into A Bottomless Pit

Solutions - other than another Arab State - are possible and achievable

US Secretary of State John Kerry at a meeting of the World Economic Forum in Jordan this week proposed investing another four billion dollars in trying to resolve the 130 years old Jewish-Arab conflict.

Why these billions would succeed - when tens of billions given at previous international aid meetings failed - remains a mystery.

The belief that economic prosperity for the Arabs living in the Palestinian Authority will bring a lasting end to the conflict has proved worthless in the past and will continue to do so in the future.

When the international community pledged $7.4 billion dollars at the Paris Donors Conference in December 2007 to achieve the creation of the two state solution by the end of 2008 - my article - "Paris Produces Palestinian Arab Funding Frenzy" - made the following observations:
"Creating two separate States for one Arab population living in the territorial boundaries of former Palestine always was an artificial invention that had no basis in history, geography or demography. It was a fiction contrived by the international community at a particular time to solve a particular problem

There are two questions that remain unanswered - when will the international community stop pursuing this fiction and when will they turn off the money tap trying to make it happen.
Solutions - other than another Arab State - are possible and achievable.

Pursuing those solutions - and throwing money at them in amounts similar to the Paris pledges - have a far better chance of success than the continued promotion of a 70 years old concept that has well passed its 1967 expiry date

Surely the time is fast approaching for these donors to cut their losses and simply say “enough is enough”.

The 2007 Paris Conference final communique declared:

"The Paris Conference has made evident the high degree of confidence of the international community in President Abbas and PM Fayyad’s reform and development programme"
Arafat then repudiated the Oslo Accords and the Bush Roadmap.

Fayyad is no longer Prime Minister - having left his "reform and development" programme in tatters as the International Monetary Fund makes clear in its report released in Brussels on 19 March 2013:

"... the economy has deteriorated markedly and the public finances are on an unsustainable track. Economic growth has weakened, the unemployment rate has increased, and the fiscal position has deteriorated to the point where core government functions have been affected, with ongoing cash rationing eroding public financial management institutions. Unsustainably high fiscal deficits combined with aid shortfalls are resulting in a large buildup of arrears and increased bank borrowing in the context of a slowing economy.

"Worryingly, with donor aid receding, the government‘s ability to finance large deficits is becoming more and more circumscribed. Thus, arrears, many with private suppliers, are causing them to become progressively more reluctant to provide the PA with goods and services while also causing distortions in the private sector. Arrears in the form of delayed or partial payment of wages risk social unrest and strikes, while additional recourse to the banks would further increase banking sector vulnerabilities."

Yet just two months after this alarming IMF report - Secretary of State Kerry and the 300 Israeli and Palestinian Arab industrialists and entrepreneurs gathered at the World Economic Forum are still prepared to keep this rapidly sinking fiction afloat - no matter how much it costs.
No doubt they are well intentioned in their desire to see the two state solution concluded between Israel and the PLO - but they completely ignore the following political realities:

The Palestinian Authority is an economic basket case - run by an unelected and unconstitutional self styled head of State - Mahmoud Abbas - who refuses to sit down and negotiate with Israel without pre-conditions.

Elections have not been held since 2006 and there is no prospect in sight for the people to have their say as to who should govern them.

Hamas and the PLO remain at loggerheads, allowing the PA and Gaza to become separate fiefdoms under different power structures that brook no opposition.

In this mire - even if Abbas returned to the negotiating table - the negotiations would founder on the following two demands made by Israel - which Abbas refuses to concede:

That Israel be recognized as the Jewish National Home as determined by the San Remo Conference, the Treaty of Sevres and the League of Nations.
That any Palestinian Arab State be demilitarised.

Israel's raison d'etre and right to live in freedom and security free of any future Arab threats are non- negotiable.

Abbas - on the other hand - has made it clear that:

He will never agree to abandon the right of return for millions of Palestinian Arabs and their descendants to what is now Israel.

He will not countenance Jews remaining as equal citizens with Palestinian Arabs in any Palestinian state

These demands can never be accepted by Israel.

So Senator Kerry's four billion dollars will only serve as a pinprick in the demand for continuing financial aid to prop up entrenched institutions of power bringing little relief to a long suffering population which could have had its own independent state in 1937, 1947, at any time between 1948-1967, in 2000/2001 or 2008.

Apparently this never ending game seems set to continue - as are the casualties of terrorism, violence and social upheaval.

Jordan - not the PLO - still remains the key to ending the conflict.
Continuing to pour money into the bottomless pit represented by Abbas is certainly not the answer.

Guardian sports writer makes unforced error in report on failing BDS campaign against Israel

The famous biased rag resorting to sport to boycott Israel,  don't they ever give up??
It's way past time bashing Israel, from the west, stopped.

As we reported on May 28, the 2013 European Under-21 Football Championship (UEFA U-21) will be hosted by Israel beginning tomorrow, June 5th, through the 18th, bringing national football teams from all over Europe to compete – with England, Germany, Spain, Italy, Russia, the Netherlands and Norway, alongside Israel, all vying for the title of champion.
Additionally, we noted in our post that the Guardian, unsurprisingly, has provided free PR to a failing BDS campaign calling for the tournament organizers, even at this late date, to reverse their decision to choose Israel as the venue, publishing a pro-boycott letter (signed largely by activists affiliated with Palestine Solidarity Campaign) and a story, in their sports section, reporting on the publication of the very same letter the paper had just published.
The latest publicity provided for those calling for a sporting boycott of the Jewish state was provided by Guardian north-east football correspondent, Louise Taylor, in a piece titled ‘England enter a politically loaded European Under-21 Championship‘, June 3.
football
After explaining that Uefa’s award of the European Under-21 Championship to Israel is “politically loaded” Taylor then proceeds to devote nearly all of her 770 word report on the football tournament to the efforts of BDS campaigners who, she claims, regard Israel’s hosting of the games “as another kick in the teeth for Palestinians in the occupied territories.”
Though Taylor mostly sticks to the script, in reporting details of the boycott movement which has been reported elsewhere at the Guardian, she makes an error in the following passage:
The hurdles faced by Palestinian footballers, who have their own, Fifa-registered national side, were highlighted in November when more than 60 players from Europe’s major leagues, including Arsenal’s Abou Diaby and Newcastle’s Sylvian Marveaux, Papiss Cissé and Cheik Tioté, signed a petition demanding Uefa relocate the Under-21 tournament.
However, as we reported back in December after the Guardian’s Chris McGreal first reported news of the footballers’ “Declaration of support for Palestine“, the original list of 62 included some footballers who didn’t in fact sign the petition. As CAMERA noted at the time, shortly after the petition was first published the list of endorsers magically shrank to 52.
Here are the ”signatories” who apparently never signed the petition:
André Ayew, Olympique de Marseille (France)
Jordan Ayew, Olympique de Marseille (France)
Yohan Cabaye, Newcastle United (UK)
Soulaymane Diawara, Olympique de Marseille (France)
Didier Drogba, Shanghaï Shenhua (China)
Rod Fanni, Olympique de Marseille (France)
Charles Kaboré, Olympique de Marseille (France)
Anthony Le Tallec, AJ Auxerre (France)
Steve Mandanda, Olympique de Marseille (France)
Arnold Mvuemba, Olympique Lyonnais (France)
Indeed, the petition currently posted on the website of former Tottenham and Sevilla striker Frederic Kanoute only shows 52 names.
We can only hope that following this story Louise Taylor will avoid politics and return to writing about sport, where she may be less prone to committing such unforced errors.

Palestinians to turn to UN bodies to prosecute Israel if US attempts to restart talks fail

Let me get this straight....Palestinian authority WARN if America(meaning Obama Gov) try to restart peace talks  AND  the peace talks fail (as they always do due to Israel having no peace talk partners) the PA with cry to the U.N to charge Israel with war crimes.......hmm.  Facts from the past, talks fail because the PA refuse to talk until Israel promise not to build homes(Jewish homes) in our country.   Excellent manipulators!!!!  problem is the west fall it.   Another thought....What has Obama promised the fake Palestinians when we weren't listening??

RAMALLAH, West Bank -

A senior Palestinian official says the West Bank government will try to bring Israel up on charges through the U.N. if American attempts to restart peace talks fail.

Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat told diplomats Tuesday that Palestinians plan on turning to U.N. agencies to charge Israel with war crimes in international courts if talks don't resume.

The remarks come before U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry returns to the region next week for consultations.

Talks collapsed over four years ago over the issue of construction of Jewish housing in areas Palestinians demand for a future state. Palestinians say they will not talk until construction in settlements is stopped.

Israel says settlements, along with other core issues, should be resolved in peace talks without preconditions
