Watch the security camera footage:
The incident occurred in the Arab town of Ibilin in northern Israel. In the video, the Arab man is seen standing quickly and striking the Jewish man in the face. Onlookers calm the assailant and then help the victim to leave the premises, but seem to be otherwise untroubled by the incident.
The Jewish victim was treated at a nearby hospital for his injuries. His lawyer later asked a very pertinent question:
"What would have happened if the situation had been reversed, if a Jew had so attacked an Arab in a Jewish city? President [Shimon] Peres would have denounced the attacker, Justice Minister [Tzipi] Livni would have demanded new laws and the chief rabbi would have visited the victim. The western media would have go into overdrive denouncing Israel as wicked and the UN would have been wringing its hands and snapping all the pencils in their building. But, when a Jew is attacked, it is as if nothing unusual has happened."
