IDF tank fires shell into the northern Gaza Strip

An Israeli tank fired a shell in the direction of Beit Hanoun in the north of the Gaza Strip Thursday, Israel Radio reported, citing Palestinian sources.

There were no reports of injuries or damage, and it was not immediately clear why the mortar shell was fired.
On Monday a roadside bomb was discovered along the Gaza borderduring a routine IDF patrol. IDF bomb-disposal engineers conducted a controlled detonation of the device.

A week earlier the IDF revealed that it had unearthed an extensive tunnelrunning from Gaza under the border, which it said had been dug in order to try to kidnap Israelis for use as possible bargaining chips to obtain the release of Palestinians held in Israeli prisons. It was the third such tunnel, and the most sophisticated, to be discovered in the past year. Hamas later acknowledged that it organized the tunnel.
