Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a holiday evening visit to the home of Ziv Shilon, a company commander in the Givati infantry brigade who was wounded in last year's Operation Pillar Cloud in the Gaza Strip.
The visit came as a result of Ziv's mother, Margalit, inviting the prime minister to eat couscous with the family back when Netanyahu called on the wounded commander at Soroka Hospital in Beersheva.
Netanyahu asked to fulfill his promise on the eve of Rosh Hashanah.
The prime minister told the family: "Margalit, you are a virtuous woman who raised a virtuous hero (a reference to Proverbs 31). Ziv is a hero of the people of Israel, and thanks to people like him we have the State of Israel. Your son is a model to teach us the true meaning of heroism. When I visited Ziv in the hospital, you invited me to partake of the couscous you would make when Ziv was released. I promised I would come, and have done so on this Rosh Hashanah. I wish you health and length of days and a good year ahead for you and all of Israel."
When Netanyahu first heard of Ziv's injury in the Gaza Strip last November, he asked to speak to the soldier and his family to offer them support and strength. Following a phone call, Netanyahu asked to personally visit Ziv at the hospital.
The prime minister acknowledged being very impressed with Ziv's strength of will and his desire to return to the front lines as soon as possible. Netanyahu was presented with documentation of the process doctors at Soroka undertook to save Ziv's hand and help him rehabilitate.
